On 8th October 2017, Kong Zi Institute University of Malaya in collaboration with Faculty of General Studies and Advanced Education of University Sultan Zainal Abidin (Unisza), organized the 3rd International Seminar on the Modernization of Islam in China in UniSZA, Kuala Terengganu. The theme of the seminar is about the modernization of thinking and philosophy that has taken place in modern China.
The seminar featured four famous speakers from China and one from Malaysia. They are:
a)Director Zhao Xueyi – Examining the Modernization of Islam in China from the Perspective of Personnel Training.
b)Yang Guiping – The Modernization of Chinese Muslim: Historical Process, Current Practice and Theoretical Reflection
c)Madya Dr. Ahmad Azrin bin Adnan (UniSZA) – Medico-Social Initiative Through Waqf
d)Profesor Zhang Jian – A General Inspiration from the Modernization of Chinese Culture and Chinese Muslim
e)Mi Shoujiang – The Contribution of Liu Zhi in the Localization of Islam in China and its Modern Connotation
在开幕致辞中,苏丹再纳阿比丁大学校长拿督祖拜迪教授(Prof Dato’ Dr. Zubaidi, Vice Chancellor of UniSZA)热情地欢迎了来自中国的学者专家,他希望本次研讨会的举办能够推动苏丹再纳阿比丁大学学术水平的发展。
During the opening remarks, Prof Dato’ Dr. Zubaidi, Vice Chancellor of UniSZA welcomed professors from China. He hoped the seminar would give an impetus on the academic performance of the university.
Mr. Chen Zhong, the Chinese Director of KongZi Institute UM summarized the development history of the Islamic Seminar and noted that true religious faith encourages people being virtuous and love each other, and against prejudice and parochialism.
Bukit Rakit State Legislative Assemblies of Malaysia, YB Haji Bazlan bin Haji Abd Rahman presented the key-note speech. He summarized the development history of China-Malaysia relations, believed that this seminar will enhance the mutual understanding between the two countries and strengthened the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The scholars and experts discussed the development of modernization of Islam in China from different perspectives, especially on the cultivation of religious talents, the theoretical construction of Islamic modernization, the impact of western modernization on the religion’s development in China and the enlightenment from Chinese ancient religion.
This seminar offered an opportunity which gets scholars and experts from China and Malaysia communicate face to face, enhanced the mutual understanding and friendship.
