Kong Zi Institutes in the World

Over the recent years, there is a rapid growth in China’s economy and exchanges with others parts of the world. Inclined to that, there is a sharp increase in the demands of Chinese learning. Acquiring the promoting experiences from leading countries like UK, France, Germany and Spain, China began its own exploration by establishing non-profit public institutions aiming to promote and educate the Chinese language and culture in 2004. This establishment gave birth to the Confucius Institute.

As of today, the Confucius Institutes’ development has been integrating the learning of the Chinese language and culture to all walks of life around the world. Through hard work and commitment, they have established themselves as a platform for cultural exchanges between China and other global countries as well as a bridge reinforcing friendship and cooperation. With the combined efforts of China and the Institute has led to the installation of 322 Confucius Institutes and 369 Confucius Classrooms in 96 countries by 2010. In addition, many different institutions from over 50 countries have request establishments of the Confucius Institutes/Classrooms, amongst them are some of the world’s top universities

Confucius Institutes/Classrooms adopts a flexible teaching plan and adapts to local conditions when the Chinese language is taught in foreign school, communities and enterprises. In the year 2009, Confucius Institutes/Classrooms offers over 9,000 Chinese courses of a multitude of styles, with a total enrollment rate of 260,000, a 130,000 increment from the previous year. Over 7,500 cultural exchange activities have taken place, with 3 million participations doubling the figures from the previous year.

(Hanban) Chinese Language Council International

The Chinese Language Council International Office, (Hanban) was established by the Chinese Government in 1987. Hanban is well renowned in Kong Zi Institute and is also one of the main sponsors of the Chinese Bridge competition, a competition among non-native speakers based on their Chinese language proficiency. Hanban commits itself in advancing the teachings of the Chinese language and providing better insights of the Chinese culture resources as well as making its services available worldwide. Hanban works relentlessly in meeting the demands of global Chinese learners to the utmost fluency not forgetting the contribution of global cultural diversity and harmony. Generally, the Council is in charge with cultivating adequate knowledge and interest in the Chinese language and culture throughout the world.

Chinese Bridge

The “Chinese Bridge” is an international contest sponsored by Hanban. It is well known worldwide in terms of its cultural and educational exchanges. It set sights on building enthusiasm in students to learn Chinese and strengthening their knowledge and understanding of the Chinese culture.
